Domain Name and Web Hosting are the very common things that every blogger or a webmaster needs to start blog or a website. So here i am gonna give simple definitions with few examples that will let you to understand what they really are and whats the dependency between them.

Definitions of Domain Name and Web Hosting

Domain Name

Take it as Domain Name = Domain + Name then you will be able to understand much better. OK so we have two different words Domain and Name. Ask yourself now whats the simple meaning for these two words ?

• Domain —> Simple meaning for the word Domain is Territory or Area.

But for your better understanding i would say it simply the area of interest or niche that you want to choose for blogging or website.

For example if you are tech freak then your blogging domain would obviously be technology oriented or any area of your interest in which you want to start your blog. Like mine is blogging tips and blogging resources so its my domain.

But over internet Territory or Area means country.

2. .pk for Pakistan
3. .au for Australia etc.

The all above are domains which are Country Specific or you can call them as Local Domains.

Finally .com which is Non-Country Specific or Global Domain.

• Name —> I don’t think i need to tell anyone about this. Its just the name you want to give to your Domain.

Google, Facebook, BlogSpiceUp, GrabTheJobs, EntertainmentDisk, Twitter, WordPress etc.

Binding up all Domain Name is simply the name for your area of interest in which you want to start your Website or Blog.

Web Hosting

Web hosting is the space that you need to host your Domain Name. Actually you need to upload your files (photos, videos etc.) somewhere over internet so space is needed to upload those files and that space is called Web Hosting.

Now you will think that you have many other websites where you can upload photos(on Picasa Web Albums, Flickr etc.), videos (on YouTube, Meta Cafe etc.) and other files(on MediaFire, RapidShare etc.) but i will say this won’t work if you are thinking for professional Blog or Website.
